How to install MakeMKV on POP!_OS

Welcome to my own homemade guide since I am the owner of a plex server and own over 1000+ movies that I want on my Plex server, but the problem comes down to 4K movies. You can't rip those with the standard MakeMKV. It would be best if you had the beta one, so here I will show you how it's done.

I used MakeMKV to rip with, and it wouldn't Rip my 4K. No matter what I did, it keeps saying Failed to open the disk, and I know my drive can rip 4k since it did it on DVDfab (Windows), but it doesn't work on Linux. And the hash keys fill text didn't work, so I was looking for a way around it because I think it had to be the makemkv version I installed from the snap store, so I google around and fundet this PPA to makemkv-beta. So i installed that, and it works. So now I can rip 4k with makemkv.

First, you open the terminal.

Then you put in this PPA (Personal Package Archive) your Terminal and push enter.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:heyarje/makemkv-beta

Then a TOS (Terms of Service) shows, and when you have read it, just push enter again.

Then you make sure that everything is UpToDate with this command.
sudo apt-get update
Put it into your Terminal and push enter.

Now it's time to install MakeMKV with this command.
sudo apt-get install makemkv-bin makemkv-oss
Put it into your Terminal and push enter.

Then you just wait for it to install, and you are good to go.

As stated on the main page, all features of MakeMKV are free while the program is in beta. You may purchase the full activation key if you like the program and want to show your support, but you also may use the temporary beta key.

The current beta key is :

You can find a new key here every month.
